The edible portion of a palm is the terminal bud which is the growing tip of the palm tree. This is what is commonly called the heart and is harvested by cutting down the tree and removing the fibrous leaf sheaths until only the center is left. Palm heart has a texture similar to that of artichokes and goes well in salads, stir-fries, curries, and deep-fried.
